Reduction of water usage in the waste slag granulation process of an Ausmelt furnace.
CONTEXT OF THE PROBLEM
High water use in the slag granulation process at the Minsur Smelter and Refinery in Pisco.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM
Slag granulation process currently uses between 20 to 30 m3 every 9 hours, as a product of slag contact at 1200 °C with pressurized water (280 to 320 m3/h), water vapor is produced and is not recovered. . In this context, for the Minsur Smelter & Refinery in Pisco, it is necessary to reduce water consumption in the granulation process, since geographically we are in an area of water stress.
FREQUENCY OF THE PROBLEM
Approximately every 9 hours, 20 to 30m3 of water is used in the granulation process.
PARTIAL SOLUTIONS
Currently there is an enclosure with counter-current water sprinklers to recover part of the water vapor from the granulation process by condensation.
IMPACT OF THE PROBLEM
We want to fix this problem as we are in a water stress area.
